About this course

BEng (Hons) in Materials Science and Engineering, a materials science and engineering degree focusing on the properties, processing, and application of engineering materials. Core topics include Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Engineering Design, and Entrepreneurship. In the final year, students complete a research project supervised by academic staff, with potential collaboration from industrial partners. The first year covers foundational concepts through Engineering Principles and Design, Mathematics for Materials, and Experimentation and Practical Skills. The second year introduces core topics such as Data Analysis and Modelling, Group Design Project, and Structures and Characterisation, alongside optional modules like Composite Materials and Biomaterials 1 (Biomaterials for Tissue Engineering). The third year comprises compulsory studies including Sustainability, Recycling and Environment, Project, and Advanced Principles of Materials, with optional choices such as Vehicle and Component Design, Biomedical Component Design, and Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
