About this course
BSc (Hons) in Mathematics, a mathematics degree exploring analytical frameworks and numerical concepts. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Over the first two years, students study core mathematical foundations before undertaking an individual project or report in the final year alongside extensive optional choices. The first year establishes fundamental concepts through compulsory modules such as Analysis I, Calculus I, Computing and Numerical Methods, Linear Algebra and Geometry I, Mathematical Thinking, Introductory Probability and Statistics, Linear Algebra and Geometry II, and Mechanics. The second year continues with core subjects covering Algebra, Analysis II, Calculus II, Probability Theory, Introduction to Differential Geometry, Communicating Mathematics, Complex Analysis, ODEs and Calculus of Variations, and Elements of Topology, alongside optional choices including Graph Theory, An Introduction to Mathematics Education, Applied Statistics, Analytical Dynamics, Computational Methods for Differential Equations, and Statistical Modelling. In the final year, students complete a BSc Mathematics Project or a Mathematics Report. They can also select from numerous advanced options such as Advanced Numerical Methods, Statistical Machine Learning, Introduction to Algebraic Geometry, Number Theory, Dynamical Systems, Asymptotic Methods, Operational Research, Stochastic Methods in Finance, Functional Analysis, Bayesian Statistics and Markov Chain Monte Carlo Methods, Galois Theory, Medical Statistics, Studies in Science and Mathematics Education, Advanced Complex Analysis, Representation Theory, Linear Differential Equations, Vibrations and Waves, Elliptic Curves, Game Theory, Computational Methods in Finance, Mathematical Biology, and a University-wide Language Programme.
