About this course
BSc (Hons) in Mathematics with Statistics, a mathematics and mathematics and statistics degree centred on rigorous mathematical foundations and advanced data analysis. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The curriculum features a major final-year project connecting to contemporary statistics research alongside modern applications like medical statistics. The first year covers core foundations through Analysis I, Calculus I, Computing and Numerical Methods, and Linear Algebra and Geometry I. The second year builds on this with Probability Theory, Applied Statistics, Communicating Mathematics, and Statistical Modelling, alongside optional modules such as Graph Theory, Introduction to Differential Geometry, and Analytical Dynamics. In the final year, students complete a compulsory Statistics Project and can choose from a wide selection of optional modules including Statistical Machine Learning, Number Theory, Stochastic Methods in Finance, Bayesian Statistics and Markov Chain Monte Carlo Methods, Medical Statistics, and Game Theory.
