About this course

BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, a mechanical engineering degree centred on the analysis, design, and development of mechanical systems. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Control Systems, Mathematical Modelling, Project Management, Engineering Design, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The course is offered as a 3-year full-time option or a 4-year full-time route including a placement year. The first year covers core subjects through Mathematics for Mechanical Engineering, Applied Engineering, Mechanics, Mechanical Design, Materials and Manufacturing Processes, and Thermofluids 1. The second year progresses into advanced analytical and practical competencies via Mechanics 2, Engineering Mathematics and Computation Methods, Thermofluids 2, Design and Analysis of Structures and Components, Industrial Engineering Design Project, and Control System Design. In the final year, students complete the compulsory Engineering Systems and Management and Individual Project modules. Optional modules allow students to explore advanced topics such as Computational Mechanics of Materials, Energy Systems Analysis, State Control Systems, Sustainable Engineering, Computer Aided Engineering, Dynamics of Machinery: Vibration and Noise, Computational Fluid Dynamics 2, Metrology, Additive for Healthcare and Innovation, Machine Learning and AI for Engineering, Horizon Technologies for Sport and Health, Material Performance and Failure, Tribology and Contact Mechanics, Ballistics, Compressible Flow and Rocket Propulsion, Laser and Energy-Assisted Manufacturing Processes, Manufacturing Automation and Control, and Mechatronics and Instrumentation.
