About this course
MSci (Hons) in Natural Sciences, a natural sciences degree spanning multiple scientific and mathematical disciplines through flexible study pathways. Core topics include Microelectronics, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Environmental Analysis, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students complete a major research project and advanced level training in later study, with the option to undertake an industry placement year. The first year introduces foundational subjects across pathways such as the Chemistry and Bioscience pathway, the Chemistry and Mathematics pathway, and the Geography and Physics pathway, featuring modules like Fundamental Synthetic Chemistry, Mathematics for Problem Solving, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and Linear Algebra and Geometry 1. The second year builds competence through interdisciplinary science and pathway-specific study, including modules such as Structure and Reactivity 2, Mathematical Methods 3, Core Physics IV: Thermal and Statistical Physics, and Earth Surface Processes and Landforms. The third year continues with advanced pathway modules and an Interdisciplinary Research Project alongside options like Complex Analysis, Modern Aspects of Organic Chemistry, and Advanced Processing Methods. The final fourth year provides advanced level training and further independent investigation through an Interdisciplinary Research Project alongside specialized optional modules.
