About this course
BSc (Hons) in Product Design and Technology, an engineering degree exploring the intersection of industrial design, modern manufacturing methods, and user-centred development. Core topics include Programming, Project Management, Engineering Design, Communication & Writing, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Design & Creative Practice. This accredited programme is available as a four-year route including an integrated professional placement year or as a standard three-year full-time option. The first year covers core theory and prototyping through compulsory modules such as Materials and Practical Prototyping, Design Foundations 1, Mechanics and Modern Materials in Design, Electronics, Programming & Interfacing, and Designing Products for People. The second year expands into manufacture and commercial practices via modules including Design Communication, Integrated Product Function, New Product Development, Design for Manufacture, and Studio Product Design, alongside optional choices such as Arts Management, Creative Placemaking, and BioDesign. The final year focuses on advanced professional readiness through compulsory modules like Live Projects, Final Year Design Practice (Product), and Applications of Mechanics and Electronics for Design, with further study supported by options such as Research for Design and Computer Aided Modelling and Manufacture.
