About this course

MEng (Hons) in Product Design Engineering, a robotics engineering degree focusing on the integration of manufacturing processes, technology, and engineering science to create functional physical products. Core topics include Programming, Embedded Systems, Statistics, Project Management, Engineering Design, Ethics & Professional Practice, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Design & Creative Practice. The first three years are shared with the BEng route, while the MEng qualification meets the educational requirements for later professional registration as a Chartered Engineer. The first year covers fundamental engineering and design through Mathematics for Product Design Engineering, Applied Engineering, Engineering Science, and Product Design Methods. Year 2 advances into dynamic and production systems with Energy Demand & Engineering Science, Engineering Modelling and Software, Machine Design: From Concept to Control, and Manufacturing Processes and Digital Production Technologies. Year 3 introduces core professional practice via Engineering Systems and Management and an Individual Project, alongside optional study areas such as Organisation Structure and Strategy, Sustainable Product Lifecycle Engineering, and Computer Aided Engineering. Year 4 offers advanced specialisations through options like Engineering Research Challenge Team Project, Industry Based Engineering Team Project, Robotic Applications in Sport and Healthcare, and Industrial Machine Vision with AI.
