About this course
BEng (Hons) in Robotics, Mechatronics and Control Engineering, a robotics engineering and electrical and electronic engineering degree focused on autonomous and mechatronic systems. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Control Systems, Mathematical Modelling, Project Management, Engineering Design, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The course is available as a three-year full-time study option or a four-year route incorporating a professional placement year. The first year introduces core mathematical methods, linear electrical circuits, software programming, electronic logic, mechanical systems, and professional multi-disciplinary problem-solving through compulsory modules such as Core Mathematics, Circuit Analysis, Programming and Software Engineering, Digital Systems, Dynamic Systems Analysis, and Applied Engineering. The second year advances mathematical techniques, industrial robot architectures, analogue and digital electronic circuits, dynamic systems control, kinematic and dynamic behaviours of robotic manipulators, and project management via Advanced Mathematics, Robotic Systems Technology, Electronics, Control System Design, Foundations of Robotics, and Project Design and Management. The third year covers advanced systems management and state space control techniques through Engineering Systems and Management and State Control Systems, alongside an Individual Project. Students can also choose optional modules in areas such as Machine Learning and AI for Engineering, Horizon Technologies for Sport and Health, Manufacturing Automation and Control, and Mechatronics and Instrumentation.
