Entry requirements

A level: A*AA - AAA including two of the following  subjects: Biology, Human Biology, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Psychology, Physical Education. IB: 38 - 37 (7,6,6 - 6,6,6 HL) to include two of the following subjects at HL: Biology, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Psychology, Sport, Exercise and Health Science. BTEC: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate: D* plus two A Levels in required subjects at grades AA. If the BTEC is in one of our preferred subjects, then only one of the two A levels needs to be in a required subject. BTEC Level 3 National Diploma: D*D plus one A level in a required subject at grade A. The BTEC must be in one of our preferred subjects. If not in a preferred BTEC subject, then two A levels in required subjects at grades AA are needed. A BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma will not be acceptable as a stand-alone qualification but will be accepted at D*D*D if taken in a preferred BTEC subject and in combination with one required A level at grade A. Please note that Sport or Sport Science related subjects will not be accepted alongside A Level Physical Education. Cambridge Technical (CTEC) qualifications equivalent in size to the BTEC versions outlined above are also acceptable. Preferred BTEC: Sport and Exercise Science, Sport, Applied Science (Biomedical Science, Analytical and Forensic Science or Physical Science). Preferred CTEC: Sport and Physical Activity.

About this course

BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science, a cellular molecular and sport and exercise science and biomedical engineering degree focusing on the scientific principles underpinning human performance, health and physical activity. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, and Research Methods. The course is available as a three-year full-time option or a four-year route incorporating an industrial placement year. The first year covers fundamental topics through Anatomy and Physiology, Academic Skills and Data Description, Integrated, Professional and Applied Skills in Sport and Exercise Science, Introduction to Sport Biomechanics and Kinesiology, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and Foundations of Sport and Exercise Psychology. The second year builds quantitative research and investigative techniques via Research Methods: Data Analysis and Physical Activity and Health (SES), alongside optional subjects such as Human Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism, Physiology of Exercise and Training, Biomechanics of Sport, Motor Control and Motor Learning, Expert Performance in Sport, and Current Themes in Sport and Exercise Psychology. In the final year, students complete a compulsory Final Year Project alongside optional modules covering advanced physiology, nutrition, biomechanics, motor control, climate action, and applied psychology.
