Entry requirements

A level: AAB including at least one of the following subjects: Biology, Human Biology, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology, History, Geography, Physical Education and English Literature or English Language. IB: 35 (6,6,5 HL) to include at least one of the following subjects at HL: Biology, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Psychology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, History, Geography, Sport, Exercise and Health Science and English Literature/Language A. BTEC: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate: D plus two A levels at grades AB. One A level must be in a required subject. BTEC Level 3 National Diploma DD plus one A level in a required subject at grade A. We recommend that the BTEC National Extended Certificate and National Diploma are in one of our preferred subjects (below), but we will consider alternatives alongside required A level subjects. Please note that Sport or Sport Science related subjects will not be accepted alongside A level Physical Education. Cambridge Technical (CTEC) qualifications equivalent in size to the BTEC versions outlined above are also acceptable. Preferred BTEC: Sport and Exercise Science, Sport, Applied Science (Biomedical Science, Analytical and Forensic Science or Physical Science). Preferred CTEC: Sport and Physical Activity. We will also consider the below vocational BTEC/CTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas as standalone qualifications: If you are not sure of the exact title of your BTEC/CTEC qualification, please check with your school or college. If you are studying towards a BTEC or CTEC Level 3 qualification in another subject area (e.g. Sport, Fitness and Personal Training; Sporting Excellence and Performance; Sports Coaching and Development; or Business), we are only able to consider an application from you if you are also studying an A level in one of our required A level subjects.

About this course

BSc (Hons) in Sport Science, Coaching and Physical Education, a sport and exercise science degree centred on the study of coaching practice, physical education, and human movement. Core topics include Research Methods, Policy Analysis, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. Students can choose between a three-year full-time study route or a four-year option that incorporates an integrated placement year. The first year introduces foundational principles through modules such as Academic, Research and Vocational Skills, Sport and the Social Sciences, Kinesiology, Growth and Development, Fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Science, Fundamentals of Sport Coaching, and Fundamentals of Teaching Physical Education. The second year builds on this with compulsory studies in Research Skills and Methodologies, Coaching Process and Practice, and The Reflective Practitioner in Physical Education, alongside optional modules including Fitness Training and Analysis, Sport, Diversity and Social Justice, Acquiring Movement Skills, Conceptualising Sport, and Physical Activity and Health. The final year centres on the completion of the Final Year Project, supplemented by optional study choices covering Advanced Sport Coaching, Critical Pedagogies in Physical Education, Physical Activity and Health of Children, Contemporary Issues in Sporting Cultures, Leadership and Managing Change, Sport, Climate Action and Nature, Applied Sports Science: Analysis and Conditioning, Sport Policy and Governance, and Psychology for Physical Educators.
