About this course
BSc (Hons) in Urban Planning, a planning, property and environmental management degree focused on the development, design and policy frameworks of the built environment. Core topics include Data Analysis, Research Methods, Project Management, Accounting, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Ethics & Professional Practice. Available as a three-year full-time route or a four-year option incorporating a placement year, the course includes practical field trips and shared teaching within the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering. During the first year, students cover foundational material through Professional Skills, Principles of Law and Economics for the Built Environment, Professional Practice in Urban Planning, Design Skills and Urban Data Analytics, Contemporary Planning, and Principles of Urban Planning. The second year expands into specialized topics with modules such as Urban Economics and Development Appraisal, Research Methods and Digital Skills, Urban Planning and the Environment, Design and Place Making, Remote Sensing & GIS, Construction Finance and Risk, Global Migration, Urban Geographies, and University Wide Language Programme. The final year focuses on advanced concepts and independent research, featuring compulsory modules including Planning Theories in Context, Future Cities, Planning Policy and People, Urban Mobility, Research Dissertation, and Teamwork and Leadership.
