About this course
MPlan (Hons) in Urban Planning, a planning, property and environmental management degree centred on spatial planning, urban development, and the environmental factors shaping modern cities. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Research Methods, Project Management, Accounting, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Ethics & Professional Practice. Students can choose between a five-year full-time path with a placement year and a four-year full-time route. The first year covers core foundations through Professional Skills, Principles of Law and Economics for the Built Environment, Professional Practice in Urban Planning, Design Skills and Urban Data Analytics, Contemporary Planning, and Principles of Urban Planning. The second year introduces broader applications via modules such as Urban Economics and Development Appraisal, Research Methods and Digital Skills, Urban Planning and the Environment, Design and Place Making, Remote Sensing & GIS, Construction Finance and Risk, Global Migration, and Urban Geographies. The third year shifts focus to advanced theories and leadership through Planning Theories in Context, Future Cities, Planning Policy and People, Urban Mobility, Research Dissertation, and Teamwork and Leadership. The final stages culminate in integrated study through Applied Urban Planning Project, Modelling and Analysis for Urban Planning, Infrastructure Planning, Mapping and Modelling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Smart Cities, Transport Planning, and Geographic Information Systems and Data Management.
