About this course
BA in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, a history and archaeology degree focused on ancient civilisations and their remains. The course includes two practical elements involving fieldwork or a museum placement, alongside the preparation of a report based on an ancient site or museum artefacts. Year 1 covers foundational subjects such as Aristocracy and democracy in the Greek world, 550–450 BC and Republic to empire: Rome, 50 BC to AD 50. Students can also study archaeology topics including Archaeology: Homeric archaeology and early Greece from 1550 to 700 BC; Greek vases; Greek sculpture c600– 300 BC; Roman architecture, as well as history modules like Athenian Revolutions, 411-403 BC; Greeks and Persians; People and Politics, 58-52 BC; Roman Imperialism in Gaul and Britain. Additionally, students have the option to learn or develop Ancient Languages through Beginning Ancient Greek or Latin; Intermediate Ancient Greek or Latin; Advanced Ancient Greek or Latin.
