About this course
BA in English and Modern Languages, an English and Modern Languages degree centred on comparative study of literature and language. Core topics include Research Methods. The four-year degree includes a compulsory third year spent abroad working, interning or studying at a university. The first year covers the foundations through Introduction to English language and literature, One period paper from single honours English Language and Literature, Two practical language papers and Two literature papers in the modern language. The third year includes Three papers from single honours English Language and Literature, Dissertation, and Modern Language (four papers) including: practical language work (two written papers plus oral examination), a period of literature and options (prescribed authors and texts from the 12th to 21st centuries, a special subject or a linguistics paper).
