About this course
BA / MMathPhil in Mathematics and Philosophy, a Mathematics and Philosophy degree centred on the parallel study of these related disciplines. Core topics include Mathematical Modelling and Research Methods. Students can choose an optional mathematics dissertation or an optional philosophy thesis in the final year. The first year covers foundational concepts through Algebra, Analysis, Calculus, Probability, General philosophy, Frege, Foundations of Arithmetic, and Philosophical Topics in Logic and Probability. The fourth year offers advanced mathematical and philosophical study through modules such as Axiomatic set theory, Elliptic curves, Gödel’s incompleteness theorems, Infinite groups, Model theory, and Stochastic differential equations. Students may also undertake advanced options in philosophy alongside their mathematical studies.
