About this course

BA in Philosophy and Modern Languages, an Italian and Philosophy degree combining the study of philosophical ideas with language and literature. Students spend a compulsory year abroad during the third year, which typically involves working as a paid language assistant, undertaking an internship, or studying at a university. The first year covers General philosophy, Moral philosophy, Logic, Practical language work (two papers), and Study of important literary works and/or topics (two papers). The final year includes Early Modern philosophy, Plato’s Republic, Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, one literature paper, and Practical language work (two papers and an oral examination). Students also complete additional combinations of further papers in Philosophy and Modern Languages, which can incorporate a thesis, options in linguistics, an extended essay, or special subjects from a range of available topics.
