BEng Aerospace Engineering
Queen Mary University of London
About this course
BEng (Hons) in Aerospace Engineering, an aerospace engineering degree centred on practical design, aircraft systems and flight mechanics. Core topics include Signal Processing, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Engineering Design, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. This Royal Aeronautical Society and Institution of Mechanical Engineers accredited course provides practical training supported by specialist facilities including wind tunnels, flight simulators, and anechoic chambers. The foundation year establishes core knowledge through modules such as Communication in Science and Technology, Further Mathematics, and Foundations of Engineering. The first year introduces fundamental concepts through Engineering Design, Materials Engineering, Exploring Aerospace Engineering, and Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics. The second year builds technical competence via Applied Solid Mechanics, Aerothermodynamics of Flows, Introduction to Spacecraft Dynamics, and Control System Analysis and Design. The third year advances professional capability through the Integrated Design Project, Conceptual Design of Aircraft, and Flight Dynamics and Stability of Aircraft. Optional modules across later stages allow specialisation in subjects such as Aircraft Structures, Spacecraft Design, Aircraft Propulsion Systems, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Digital Signal Acquisition & Processing, culminating in an Industry / Research Project.
