BEng Chemical Engineering
Queen Mary University of London
About this course
BEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering, a chemical engineering degree centred on the principles of industrial processes and sustainable technologies. Core topics include Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Environmental Analysis, Engineering Design, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The programme is accredited by the Institute of Chemical Engineers to partially demonstrate the knowledge required for Chartered Engineer registration. The course begins with a foundation year comprising modules such as Foundations of Chemical Science, Foundations of Physical Science, and Foundations of Engineering. The first year establishes core concepts through Engineering Design, Computational and Mathematical Modelling 1, and Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics. Year 2 advances into Applied Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Chemical Reaction Engineering, and Process Control. Year 3 focuses on applied topics including Design Project, Fuels and Sustainability, Catalysis and Reaction Design, and Process Safety and Loss Prevention. The final year involves advanced study via the Chemical Engineering Individual Research Project, Macromolecular Engineering, Advanced Water Treatment, and Environment, Ethics and Economics in Engineering Design, alongside optional modules covering topics such as Electrochemical Energy Storage Systems, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for Engineering, and Renewable Fuels.
