BEng Computer Systems Engineering
Queen Mary University of London
About this course
The BEng (Hons) in Computer Systems Engineering is an electrical and electronic engineering degree focused on the integration of hardware and software solutions. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Microelectronics, Control Systems, Data Analysis, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students complete a collaborative software engineering project in the second year and undertake an individual hardware or software project in the final year. The course begins with Year 0 covering preparatory modules such as Communication in Science and Technology, Further Mathematics, and Foundations of Engineering. Year 1 introduces fundamentals through Procedural Programming, Electronic Engineering Mathematics, Digital Circuit Design, and Object Oriented Programming. Year 2 advances technical knowledge with Microprocessor Systems Design, Software Engineering, Algorithms and Data Structures, and Operating Systems, alongside optional modules like Signals and Systems Theory and an optional credit-bearing summer internship. The final year centres on a substantial Project and Embedded Systems, while optional choices span Control Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Integrated Circuit Design, Distributed Systems, and Neural Networks and Deep Learning.
