About this course
BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, a mechanical engineering degree centred on the design, manufacture, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Core topics include Control Systems, Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Environmental Analysis, and Engineering Design. The programme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Aeronautical Society, partially meeting the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer registration. The course begins with a foundation year comprising modules such as Communication in Science and Technology, Further Mathematics, and Science and Engineering Success. The first year establishes core concepts through Engineering Design, Materials Engineering, and Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics. The second year develops technical proficiency via Applied Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, and Control System Analysis and Design. The third year involves advanced study with the Integrated Design Project and Simulation Tools in Engineering Analysis and Design, alongside optional modules including Vehicles for the Future and Advanced Robotics Systems. The final year centres on the Industry/Research Project, complemented by optional subjects such as Renewable Energy Sources and Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for Engineering.
