About this course

The BEng in Aerospace Engineering BEng is an aerospace engineering degree focused on aircraft and spacecraft design, systems engineering, and flight mechanics. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Embedded Systems, Control Systems, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Project Management, Engineering Design, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students complete a substantial individual research project in the final year. The first year covers foundational concepts through Aerospace Design 1, Avionic systems and control, Aerospace Materials 1, and Aerospace Statics and Thermofluids. The second year progresses with Aerospace Design II, Aerospace thermofluids 2, Aerospace Structures and Dynamics, and Embedded Programming and Analysis. In the third year, students study Aircraft Design and Aircraft Dynamics and undertake an Investigative Project, while choosing 60 credits from either the Avionics or the Aeromechanics stream. Optional choices span subjects such as Space Systems Engineering and Spacecraft Design, Machine Learning and Optimisation, Control Systems Design, Energy Systems and Power Electronics, Communication Systems, Structural Dynamics and Applications to Vibration Design, Modelling and Simulation for Statics and Dynamics, Aerodynamics and CFD, Thermodynamics and Propulsion, Metals, Degradation and Protection, and Composite Materials and Micromechanics.
