About this course
BSc in Biochemistry, a biochemistry degree centred on the molecular study of living systems, cellular processes, and biological macromolecules. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Project Management, Clinical Skills, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. Students examine the chemical principles governing cellular life and gain practical experience in scientific research laboratories. The first year covers core foundations through Building Blocks of Life, Introduction to Biochemistry, Diversity of Life, Professional Skills for Bioscientists, and Experimental Skills for Bioscientists. The second year progresses to Bioenergetics, Structure and Synthesis, Advanced Biochemistry, Advanced Professional Skills for Bioscientists, and Experimental Skills in Molecular Biosciences. Optional modules across intermediate and advanced stages allow specialisation in areas such as plant biology, neuroscience, microbiology, and molecular genetics. The final year centres on a compulsory Capstone Project alongside a broad selection of advanced optional modules covering medical microbiology, evolutionary genetics, stem cell biology, and pharmacology.
