About this course

MBiolSci in Biochemistry MBiolSci, a biochemistry degree centred on the molecular study of living systems, cellular processes, and biological macromolecules. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Project Management, Clinical Skills, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. Students undertake a major research project during their fourth year to prepare for a career in scientific research. During the first year, students study compulsory modules such as Building Blocks of Life, Introduction to Biochemistry, Diversity of Life, Professional Skills for Bioscientists, and Experimental Skills for Bioscientists, alongside optional choices exploring whole organisms and physiology. The second year continues with compulsory study in Bioenergetics, Structure and Synthesis, Advanced Biochemistry, Advanced Professional Skills for Bioscientists, and Experimental Skills in Molecular Biosciences, while offering options across cell biology, genetics, and microbiology. In the third year, students complete a Capstone Project and select from various advanced topics including medical microbiology, stem cell and regenerative medicine, and molecular genetics. The fourth year focuses on advanced research and literature work through compulsory modules like Extended Research Project, Advanced Literature Review: Retrieval and Evaluation of Scientific Information, and The Scientific Cycle.
