About this course
MEng in Chemical Engineering MEng, a chemical engineering degree centred on industrial chemical processes and sustainable energy systems. Core topics include Programming, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Engineering Design, Ethics & Professional Practice, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The four-year degree covers process design, thermodynamics, reactor engineering, and culminates in a major research project in the final year. The first year covers the foundations through Chemical Engineering Principles, Fundamental Science and Skills, Engineering with Living Systems, and Thermo and Fluid Dynamics. The second year focuses on operational stability and experimentation with modules such as Process Control, Reaction Engineering 1, Data Driven Engineering, and Process and Product Design. The third year advances into industrial practice and environmental impact through Systems for Sustainability, Process Design Project, Reaction Engineering 2, and Transport Phenomena. In the final year, students undertake compulsory modules including Research project alongside Advanced Process Systems Engineering and AI and ML for Chemical Engineering, while selecting from optional subjects such as Continuous Manufacturing Technology: PAT and Process Optimisation, Bioresources and Bioprocessing, Life Cycle Thinking and Assessment, Science of Formulated Products, Low Carbon Energy Science and Technology, Particle Design and Processing, Biopharmaceutical Engineering, Synthetic Biology, Petroleum Engineering, Nanomaterials Process Design, Nuclear Reactor Engineering, and Energy Systems and Management.
