About this course
MChem in Chemistry with Biological and Medicinal Chemistry, a biochemistry and chemistry degree focusing on pharmaceutical applications and molecular sciences. Core topics include Data Analysis, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. The programme is professionally accredited and includes an extended research project in the final year. The first year covers foundational concepts through compulsory modules such as Fundamentals of Chemistry 1, Fundamentals of Chemistry 2, Essential Skills for Chemists, and The chemical world around us: from biological chemistry to sustainability. The second year progresses with Chemistry Lab and Skills, Chemical Structure and Reactivity, Measurement and Modelling of Chemical Systems, and Further Core Chemistry. The third year continues with Mathematical and Physical Sciences Projects and Professional Skills, Advanced Organic Chemistry, Advanced Physical Chemistry, Advanced Inorganic Chemistry, and Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology. The fourth year features Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Design alongside a compulsory Research Project, with optional modules available in areas such as Advanced Materials Chemistry, Catalysis and Asymmetric Synthesis, Chemistry of Light, Methods and Models in Theoretical Chemistry, Sustainability technologies, Modern Industrial Catalysis, and Communication for Sustainability Researchers.
