About this course

BEng in Computer Systems Engineering BEng is an electrical and electronic engineering degree focused on the hardware and software foundations of computing platforms. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Microelectronics, Control Systems, Mathematical Modelling, Project Management, Engineering Design, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The curriculum culminates in a compulsory individual project carried out under academic supervision. The first year establishes fundamental concepts through modules such as Group Project and Engineering Skills, Engineering Modelling and Mathematics, System Analysis and Machine Learning, Electric and Magnetic Circuits, and Analogue and Digital Electronics. The second year expands technical proficiency via Industrial and Design Projects, Control and Communication Systems, Applied Engineering Mathematics, Software and Hardware Design for AI Systems, Embedded Systems Engineering, and Analogue devices and circuits. Unassigned final-year study features compulsory modules including Machine Learning and Optimisation and Computer and AI System Architecture alongside optional modules such as Control Systems Design, Digital Signal Processing, and Integrated Electronic and Semiconductor Systems.
