About this course
MEng in Computer Systems Engineering, an Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree focused on the hardware and software principles underpinning modern computing platforms. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Microelectronics, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Project Management, Engineering Design, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students complete individual and group research projects in later stages of the programme. The first year covers fundamental practical and professional skills alongside mathematical modeling, electric and magnetic circuits, and analogue and digital electronics through modules such as Group Project and Engineering Skills, Engineering Modelling and Mathematics, System Analysis and Machine Learning, Electric and Magnetic Circuits, and Analogue and Digital Electronics. The second year progresses to industrial and design projects, control and communication systems, applied engineering mathematics, embedded systems engineering, analogue devices and circuits, and software and hardware design for AI systems. Subsequent stages involve compulsory studies in computer and AI system architecture, machine learning and optimisation, and individual and group projects. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as control systems design, digital signal processing, integrated electronic and semiconductor systems, deep learning for engineering, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, data science with python, industrial training programme in artificial intelligence for engineering, machine vision, the ethics of artificial intelligence, semiconductor technologies for computing, and power and rf semiconductor devices.
