About this course
BA in English and History, an English and History degree examining literary texts and historical cultures across multiple eras. Core topics include Research Methods, Historical Research, Communication & Writing, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. The first year introduces early modern literature and historical research methods through modules such as Renaissance to Revolution: Early Modern Literature, Writing Revolutions: Restoration to Romanticism, History Workshop, and Thinking Historically. Students can also sample modules from outside the main subjects. The second year progresses to examine language change and public history, featuring compulsory modules like Romantics, Victorians and Moderns (a), Historical Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, History and the Public, and Parchment to Pixels: Interrogating Historical Evidence. The final year focuses on independent research, including the compulsory Project Module 1. Optional modules across the programme allow students to explore diverse topics such as contemporary literature, creative writing, linguistics, and various historical periods.
