About this course
BEng in Materials Science and Engineering, a materials science and engineering degree focused on the properties, processing, and application of engineering materials. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The programme provides options to undertake an industry placement year or a year abroad. The first year establishes fundamental knowledge through compulsory study in Performance and Sustainability of Materials, Functional Materials and Applications, Thermodynamics and Mechanics of Materials, and Mathematics for Materials Engineers. Year 2 builds upon this foundation with modules such as Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Materials, Deformation and Failure of Materials, Industrial Materials Processing, and Structure and Characterisation of Materials. In the final year, students can select from optional topics including Advanced Functional and Ceramic Materials, Composite Materials and Micromechanics, Materials Modelling and Artificial Intelligence, and Materials for Fission and Fusion Power.
