About this course

BEng in Mechanical Engineering BEng, a mechanical engineering degree centred on the analysis, design, and practical application of physical systems. Core topics include Research Methods, Project Management, Engineering Design, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. The first two years cover fundamental principles, leading to an individual research project in the final year. The first year introduces practical engineering problem-solving and fundamental science through modules such as Autumn Integrative Project, Spring Integrative Project, Fundamental Engineering Science: Part 1, and Essential Mathematical Skills & Techniques. The second year bridges theory and practice via modules like Mechanics and Dynamics of Solids and Structures, Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer, Design Project Part 1, and Manufacturing and Materials Processing. In the final year, students complete compulsory modules including Investigative Project and Engineering in Practice, alongside optional modules such as Structural Integrity with Finite Element Analysis, Dynamics, Vibration and Control, Fundamental and Numerical Fluid Mechanics, and Thermodynamics and Propulsion.
