About this course

Bachelor of Arts in Ancient History and History with Year Abroad, a history degree centred on global perspectives spanning ancient, medieval and modern eras. Core topics include Research Methods, Historical Research, Ethics & Professional Practice, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students complete a year abroad at a partner university during their studies. The first year establishes foundational knowledge through modules such as Ancient Sources in Context, History Matters (Object, Image, Text), Introduction to the Ancient World, and World Histories Introduced. The second year prepares students for studying overseas and introduces research debates with compulsory options like Humanities Study Abroad Preparation Module, Making History Part 2: Debates and Research, and Making History: Historians and Audiences. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as classical philosophy, film studies, maritime archaeology, and modern political history. In the final year, students undertake an independent research dissertation while choosing from advanced optional modules spanning ancient and modern historical themes.
