About this course
Master of Physics in Astrophysics with Year Abroad, an astrophysics with year abroad degree centred on physical principles, space science, and the study of the Universe. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, and Research Methods. The course includes a study period abroad at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics for a final-year research project, alongside a field trip to Tenerife for a space mission design study. The first year covers core foundations through Introduction to Astronomy and Space Science, Energy and Matter, and Physics Skills - Programming and Data Analysis. The second year builds upon this with Galaxies, Design and Observation in Astronomy, and Classical Mechanics, featuring practical work at an observatory. The third year advances into specialized topics such as Stellar Evolution, Cosmology and the Early Universe, and Space Plasma Physics. The fourth year is dedicated to the Research Thesis - Astrophysics, completed during the international placement.
