About this course

Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, a biochemistry degree focused on cellular and molecular biological principles. Core topics include Research Methods and Critical & Analytical Thinking. Students build laboratory skills through practical sessions and independent investigations, with options to study abroad or undertake a year working in industry. The first year establishes fundamental scientific concepts through Chemistry of Life, Fundamentals of Cell Biology and Physiology, How to Think Like a Scientist, and The Human Genome and Disease. The second year extends biochemical knowledge with compulsory studies in Exploring Proteins: Structure and Function and Flow of Genetic Information, alongside optional modules covering topics such as adaptive physiology, bioinformatics, and pharmacology. The final year focuses on advanced areas through compulsory modules including Molecular Cell Biology, Molecular Recognition, and Molecular and Structural Basis of Disease. Students can tailor their studies further by selecting from numerous optional modules spanning subjects like immunology, neurodegenerative disease, and bioscience business, alongside independent research project opportunities.
