About this course
Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences, a biological sciences degree examining cellular mechanisms and human disease processes. Core topics include Research Methods. Students complete independent research projects and tailor their studies through numerous advanced module choices in later stages. The first year establishes foundational knowledge through compulsory modules including Chemistry of Life, Fundamentals of Biochemistry, Fundamentals of Cell Biology and Physiology, How to Think Like a Scientist, and The Human Genome and Disease. The second year advances core understanding via compulsory study in Cell Biology, Flow of Genetic Information, Immunology, Infection and Inflammation, and Principles of Pharmacology, alongside optional topics such as Adaptive Physiology, Bioinformatics, and Neuroscience. In the final year, students select from specialized options covering areas like Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, Biomedical Parasitology, Cancer Chromosome Biology, Immunology, and Neurodegenerative Disease, while undertaking independent practical investigations through either the In-Silico Research Project or Laboratory Research Project.
