MChem Chemistry with External Placement
About this course
Master of Chemistry in Chemistry with External Placement is a chemistry degree focusing on core scientific principles and practical skills. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. This four-year degree includes a placement opportunity of six months spent either in industry or on a research placement at an overseas university. The first year covers fundamental concepts through Foundations of Chemistry I, Foundations of Chemistry II, Mathematical and Analytical Methods in Chemistry I, and Practical Chemistry I. The second year progresses with Advanced Chemistry I, Advanced Chemistry II, and Practical Chemistry II, alongside optional choices such as Chemical Solutions to Environmental Issues, Fundamentals of Biochemistry, and Medicinal Chemistry I. Third-year compulsory study includes Advanced Practical Skills in Chemistry, Frontiers in Inorganic Chemistry, Frontiers in Organic Chemistry, and Frontiers in Physical Chemistry, with optional modules such as Medicinal Chemistry III and Simulation Methods in Chemistry. The final year centres on Advanced Research Projects and Industrial Awareness and Skills Development, alongside optional modules including AI and Machine Learning in Chemistry, Advanced Chemical Biology, and Battery Technologies and Their Applications.
