About this course

Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering with Architectural Design, a civil engineering degree situated in the civil engineering subject area. Core topics include Mathematical Modelling and Engineering Design. The first two years are shared with other civil engineering programmes, before the curriculum introduces dedicated architectural and urban design specialisms alongside core structural and geomechanical engineering topics in the later stages. The first year establishes engineering foundations through compulsory modules such as An Introduction to Civil Engineering Design and Digital Skills, Civil Engineering Fundamentals, Mathematics for Engineering and the Environment, Mechanics, Structures and Materials, and ThermoFluids. The second year continues with compulsory study in City Infrastructure Design Project, Hydraulics, Liveable Cities, Mathematics for Engineering and the Environment Part II, Numerical Methods, Soil Mechanics, Structural Analysis, and Structural Design. Year 3 focuses on core topics through Geotechnical Engineering, Individual Project, Structural Stability and Finite Element Analysis, and Urban Design. The final year involves major practical work via the Architectural Engineering Project and Architectural Group Design Project, alongside Project Economics and Management, while offering optional modules that cover advanced topics such as Advanced Finite Element Analysis, Advanced Geotechnical Engineering, Advanced Structural Engineering, Composites Engineering Design and Mechanics, Earthquake Engineering and Seismic Design of Steel Buildings, Energy Performance Assessment of Buildings, Energy Resources and Engineering, Transport Management and Safety, Transport, Energy and the Environment, and Waste Resource Management.
