About this course
Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance, an economics and accounting and finance degree combining the study of economic theory with the analysis of financial markets. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Financial Analysis, Accounting, and Policy Analysis. Students engage with Bloomberg trading terminals within a financial laboratory during the first year. The first year covers core foundations through Financial Accounting 1, Mathematics for Economics, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Statistics for Economics alongside introductory management and accounting material. The second year progresses to advanced quantitative and theoretical topics via Applied Econometrics, Econometrics with Big Data, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and Portfolio Theory and Financial Markets. Optional modules in the second year cover subjects such as Development Economics, Dynamic Macroeconomics, Financial Accounting 2, Financial Management, Games, Industrial Economics, and Principles of Audit and Taxation. The final year focuses on advanced financial applications through Empirical Finance and Principles of Finance, while offering numerous optional modules including Alternative Investments, Behavioural Economics, Behavioural Finance, Choice and Decision, Environmental Economics, Financial Analysis, Information and Markets, Futures and Options, International Banking, International Macroeconomics, International Trade, Labour Economics, and Risk Management. Students may also undertake independent research through dissertation modules such as Dissertation: Literature Review, Dissertation: Research Project, and Dissertation: Research Topics, or complete a Final Year Project in Finance and FinTech.
