About this course
Bachelor of Laws in European Legal Studies, a law degree centred on legal systems, constitutional principles, and transnational legal frameworks. Core topics include Legal Analysis, Research Methods, and Design & Creative Practice. Spanning four years, the programme includes a third year spent studying at a partner institution in another European country, following two foundational years at the home institution and a return for the final year to complete advanced study. The first year establishes core legal foundations through compulsory modules such as Constitutional and Administrative Law, Contract Law, Criminal Law, Environment, Sustainability and International Law, and Legal System, Skills and Reasoning. The second year builds upon this with compulsory study in Equity and Trusts, European Union (EU) Law and UK-EU relationship: Foundations, Land Law, and Tort Law. Students may also choose optional second-year modules spanning areas such as commercial law, criminal justice, employment law, family law, data protection, and maritime law. In the final fourth year, students select from a wide range of specialised optional modules covering subjects including admiralty law, company law, competition law, international human rights law, environmental justice, and health care law and bioethics, alongside opportunities for independent research through a dissertation.
