About this course
Bachelor of Arts in Film and English with Year Abroad, an English Literature and Film Studies degree examining narrative structures and aesthetic practices across screen and page. Core topics include Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Ethics & Professional Practice, Programming, Research Methods, and Statistics. Students spend their third year studying at a partner institution in a location such as South Korea, Sweden, Ireland, or the Czech Republic. The first year introduces fundamental concepts through modules like European Cinema, Introduction to Film 1: Form, Style and Analysis, Poetic Language, and The Novel. The second year builds on these principles with compulsory study in Early and Silent Cinema, 1895-1929 and The Worlding of English Literature. Optional modules across the course allow specialisation in areas such as scriptwriting, narrative non-fiction, digital media, and environmental cinema. In the final year, students may also undertake independent research through either the English Dissertation or the Film Dissertation.
