Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages and Linguistics (2 languages: French, German or Spanish) is an undergraduate degree within the field of Modern Languages and Linguistics (2 languages: French, German or Spanish). Core topics include Statistics, Research Methods, Human Behaviour. Students spend the third year abroad on a workplace, teaching or university placement. The first year covers core foundations through Academic Skills for Modern languages and Linguistics Students, Elements of Linguistics: Sound, Structure and Meaning, French Language Stage 4, German Language Stage 4, Language, Ideologies and Attitudes, Spanish Language Stage 4, and The Making of Modern English, alongside optional choices such as Applications of Linguistics, Language Acquisition, and Understanding History and Society. The second year features Preparation for your Third Year (Abroad) as a compulsory component, complemented by optional modules spanning cultural studies, corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, and regional history like Gender, Race and Nation in Modern Latin America, Corpus Linguistics: Working with Large-scale Text Data, and Syntax: Studying Language Structure. The third year consists of the Residence Abroad Portfolio. The final fourth year includes Seeing and Being Seen. Period Abroad Re-entry, alongside diverse optional modules such as English as a Global Language, Historical Memory in Modern Latin America, and Languages, Cultures and Linguistics Dissertation.
