About this course

Bachelor of Engineering in Maritime Engineering, a civil and coastal engineering degree focused on the design, construction and testing of ships and ocean structures. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Accounting, and Engineering Design. Students complete an individual research project in the final year and have access to a university towing tank facility. The first year establishes fundamental technical foundations through modules such as An Introduction to Engineering Design, Basic Naval Architecture, Data Science and Computing for Engineers, and Mechanics, Structures and Materials. The second year progresses into specialised operational concepts via Engineering Management and Law, Hydrodynamics, Ship Design and Economics, and Systems Design and Computing. The final year covers advanced engineering principles through core modules including Individual Project, Marine Craft Concept Design, Marine Engineering, and Marine Structures. Optional modules allow students to explore specialist areas such as Finite Element Analysis in Solid Mechanics, Human Factors in Engineering, Manufacturing and Materials, and Yacht and High Performance Craft.
