Entry requirements
A level: AAA to include A level Biology and one additional science (with a pass in the practical element where it is separately endorsed). Please note applicants must offer AAA or above, we do not accept grade or tariff equivalents to AAA. IB: Overall score of 36 points with 18 at Higher Level, with 6 in Biology and one additional Science
About this course
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery Medicine BM5, a medicine degree centred on clinical practice and professional healthcare training. Core topics include Clinical Skills, Ethics & Professional Practice. Students complete clinical placements across hospital trusts and primary care settings throughout the Wessex region, and undertake a student assistantship module in the final year acting as an apprentice foundation doctor. The second year builds on foundational knowledge through compulsory modules such as Clinical Practice 2, Medical Humanities, Research as Applied to Medicine 2, and Applied Knowledge 7 covering nervous system structure and function. Third-year study introduces clinical attachments including Medicine and Elderly Care, Mental Health, Primary Medical Care and Long Term Conditions, and Surgery and Orthopaedics. Year four advances clinical competency through modules like Acute Care Year 4, Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Genitourinary Medicine, and Specialty Weeks focusing on dermatology, neurosciences, and ophthalmology. The final year consolidates training with modules including Medicine (Final), Surgery (Final), Primary Medical Care (Final), and a Student Selected Unit offering options for electives, local placements, or research projects.
