About this course
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Child), a nursing (child) degree centred on professional care and clinical practice for infants, children, and adolescents. Core topics include Clinical Skills, Research Methods, and Ethics & Professional Practice. Graduates are eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as children's nurses. The first year covers the foundations through Applied Physical Health and Pharmacology in Children, Fundamentals of health and care across the life course, Health Assessment and Management of Children and Families, and Introduction to Professional Practice. The second year focuses on Epidemiology, global and public health, Health Assessment and Acute Deterioration in Children and Young People, Inclusion Health and Care in Clinical Practice, and Preparing for the Ethical Challenges in Children's Nursing. The third year includes Complex care in children and young people, Leadership and Innovation in Healthcare, and a Student Led Project. Optional modules allow students to study Primary Care and Community Children's Nursing or Urgent, Unscheduled, and Critical Care in Children's Nursing. Clinical practice placements occur across all three years in various settings.
