Entry requirements
Single honours degrees in Arabic are not currently offered at St Andrews. Arabic can only be studied as part of a joint programme. To see the qualifications you will need, please refer to the entry requirements for the other subject in your chosen combination.
About this course
MA in Arabic, a modern languages and French and Francophone studies and Hebrew and Jewish studies and modern languages degree focusing on language acquisition and cultural study. The course includes an integrated year abroad between the second and third year in a country where Arabic is spoken. The first year covers language foundations through Arabic for Beginners 1 and Arabic for Beginners 2, enabling students to read, write and converse in simple Modern Standard Arabic. The second year progresses through Intermediate Arabic 1 and Intermediate Arabic 2 to prepare students for honours-level study using classical and contemporary texts. Subsequent study features optional modules such as Arabic Short Stories (1 and 2), Classical Arabic Poetry, Exile and Identity, and Fannanat: Arab Women's Creativity in Modern Arab Culture. Further module choices include Key Texts in Classical Arabic Literature and Culture, Media Arabic (1 and 2), Modern Arab Culture and Society, and Palestinian Fiction.
