About this course
BSc (Honours) in Cell Biology, a microbiology degree exploring the molecular structures and biochemical processes essential to cell function. Core topics include Research Methods. The course spans four years full time and includes advanced study of physiological, developmental, and pathological mechanisms across animal, plant, and microbial systems. The first year introduces molecular and cellular biology alongside organismal, behavioural, and ecological aspects of life through modules such as Biology 1 and Biology 2. The second year examines applied techniques and metabolic processes with modules including Applied Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and Cell Systems. Further compulsory study in the second year is provided by Molecular Biology and Research Methods in Biology. The final year allows students to focus on advanced topics through modules such as Gene Regulation, Genes, Cells and Development, Infection and Disease, Membranes and Cell Communication, and Protein Structure and Function.
