About this course

MA (Honours) in French, a French and Francophone Studies and German and History degree centred on the study of French language, literature and culture. The programme is delivered over four years full time. The first year introduces literary and cultural traditions alongside grammatical competence and comprehension through French Language and Literature 1 and French Language and Literature 2. The second year expands historical and textual study with French Civilisation: From the Middle Ages to the Age of Enlightenment, French Civilisation: From the Nineteenth to the Twenty-First Century, French Literature: From the Middle Ages to the Age of Enlightenment, and French Literature: From the Nineteenth to the Twenty-First Century. Further language acquisition is supported by Second Level French Language (1) and Second Level French Language (2). Later study draws on diverse optional subjects such as African Francophone Fiction, Creative Writing in French, Translation Methodology, and Translating French Opera.
