About this course

Bsc (Honours) in Molecular Biology, a biochemistry degree focused on cellular structures, fundamental biological processes and metabolic pathways. Core topics include Statistics, Research Methods. The course incorporates practical laboratory training alongside quantitative skills development, drawing on specialist research interests in the Biomedical Sciences Research Complex. The first year covers cell diversity, origins of life, organismal aspects and ecological aspects through modules such as Biology 1 and Biology 2. The second year examines applied techniques, metabolic pathways and the scientific method with compulsory modules including Applied Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Research Methods in Biology. Subsequent study encompasses a range of subjects such as Gene Regulation, Infection and Disease, Protein Structure and Function, Statistical and Quantitative Skills for Biologists, Basic Biochemistry Laboratory, Membranes and Cell Communication, Advanced Biochemistry, Genes, Cells and Development, Molecular Virology, Chromatin and Genome Stability, The CRISPR System for Antiviral Defence and Genome Engineering, and Molecular and Cell Biology of Eukaryotic DNA Replication.
