About this course

MPhys (Honours) in Physics, a physics degree focused on the study of matter, energy and physical laws. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, and Laboratory Techniques. The final year includes a full-time research project completed alongside the School's research teams, and the curriculum is accredited by the Institute of Physics. The first year covers foundational principles through compulsory modules such as Mathematics, Physics 1A, and Physics 1B, introducing mechanics, waves, and quantum physics alongside laboratory work. The second year progresses with Linear Mathematics, Multivariate Calculus, Physics 2A, and Physics 2B, extending mathematical methods and exploring thermal physics and electromagnetism. Unspecified years provide numerous advanced modules covering core subjects like electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, and thermal and statistical physics. Optional study allows specialisation through subjects such as advanced data analysis, general relativity, biophotonics, and atomic, nuclear, and particle physics.
