About this course
BSc in Applied Medical Sciences, a medical sciences degree focused on connecting biomedical research to clinical practice. Core topics include Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, and Clinical Skills. The curriculum includes a dedicated research project in the final year. The first year establishes core knowledge through compulsory modules such as Foundations in Human Physiology and Cellular Biology, Cardiovascular and Respiratory Function in Health and Disease, The Gut, Liver and Drug Metabolism, and Data Interpretation and Evaluation of Science, alongside optional modules like Cancer Medicine in Society. The second year progresses to advanced mechanisms through compulsory study in Molecular Basis of Disease, Techniques in Molecular Medicine: A Practical Approach, The Nervous System and Neurological Diseases, and Pharmacology and Drug Action, with options including Immunology and Introduction to Clinical Trials. The final year centers on independent investigation with the compulsory Research Project and Research Methods From Bench to Bedside, supported by further compulsory training in Bioinformatics in Applied Biomedical Science and optional topics such as Precision Cancer Medicine and Mathematical Modelling in Biomedicine.
