About this course
BSc in Archaeology, a forensic science degree centred on ancient materials and past environments through scientific analysis. Core topics include Communication & Writing. The curriculum incorporates fifty days of practical fieldwork alongside training in specialist laboratory facilities. The first year covers foundational concepts through World Archaeology: The Deep History of Human Societies, Introduction to Social Anthropology, Sites and Artefacts, and People and Environments. The second year examines current theory and methods via Current Issues in Archaeological Theory, Interpreting Archaeological Evidence, Research and Presentation Skills, and Applications of Archaeological Science, with optional study available in areas such as Roman Coinage and Applied Geoarchaeology. The final year focuses on advanced investigation through Field Archaeology, Archaeology in the World, and A Detailed Study of a Selected Topic, while additional options allow further exploration of specific chronological periods or geographical regions.
